United with Hearts to Solve Problems

The morning started out wonderful, on the lawn of the legislative building in Victoria a crowd gathered to come together for a common cause. Armed with passion and a sea of creatively done signs, we stood for what we believed was right, against a enemy we all know too well. The speeches were brilliant, talk of poison from the oilsands killing the land and the people. Children expressing their concern for the coming fight to save our waters from a collection of ships and tankers all seeking the drug we seem so addicted to. Through this sea of people and chants designed to unite us, one thing was missing... The unity.

Not once did they mention the fact that we all have come for a common goal, not once did they mention to shake your neighbours hand, introduce yourself or meet new people. People gathered in small groups patting each other on the back for such a fine job as whispers went around. I sought threw the crowds, seeking an understanding of those who have come that day. Threw mumbled conversations the same things arose that have become so common that normalcy is an insult.

Did you see what that person was wearing...
Look at all these hippies...
I hate all these bums asking for money...
This is not conceded land, I was born here...

If we cannot sit and be one with each other how can we possibly gather our strengths to fight our enemies, how do we change the words thrown for love sought?

Will we ever get passed our own opinions on how others should live, will we one day understand that not everyone wants to be just like you? Can we get past our own insecurities and leave people the fuck alone?

I only say this because I want to believe in unity, I want to understand equality. I just want to be me.===
